Cleaning solar panels: how, when and what yield

By AR Cleaning & Services · 19 June 2026

In short
  • Dirty panels = up to −10% output
  • Clean once a year, ideally in spring
  • Pure-water method, no scratches, no chemicals
Clean panels = up to 10% more electricity.

Why do solar panels lose efficiency?

Dust, pollen, moss, bird droppings and air pollution gradually form a film on the glass that blocks sunlight. The result: your panels produce less. A professional clean can restore up to 10% of lost output — often paying for itself within a season.

How often should you clean them?

For most installations in Belgium, once a year is enough, ideally in spring after winter grime. In leafy, rural or industrial areas, twice a year is recommended.

The right method

We use pure (osmosis / demineralised) water and soft brushes — no chemicals, no scratches, and a streak-free finish. Safety equipment lets us reach roofs and large installations.

How much does it cost?

The price depends on the number of panels, accessibility and how dirty they are. The best approach is a free, no-obligation quote.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I clean my solar panels myself?

It's risky on a roof, and tap water or abrasive tools can leave deposits or micro-scratches. A professional, pure-water clean is safer and more effective.

Doesn't the rain clean them well enough?

No. Rain leaves mineral spots and can't remove pollen, moss or droppings — these keep blocking light until cleaned.
